Going back to copyright from a few weeks ago...
I was reminded of the Copyright case against JibJab.com with "This Land" when their new animation, "Big Box Mart" was recently released. And perhaps there actually is a little to do with copyright...!?
JibJab.com seems to be the most popular (or at least present in the media) producers in parody and satire. Moving from political satire, they have aimed their next creation towards major outsourcing companies, and perhaps specifically WalMart...
As far as copyright goes, it seems like they are in the clear... "Old Susanna" is now in the public domain. But what about issues with WalMart?

JibJab Takes Aim at Outsourcing
Is the "big bad" corporation going to attack the little guys who are trying to make a stand?...

Great find, Ann -- looks like JibJab has set its sights on the private sector. Wal*Mart certainly has trademark protection in its name and logo, and copyright protection in its advertising commercials/jingles. It might even assert IP protection for the design of its stores or the employees uniforms! Watch out, JibJab...
But in the meantime, it looks like JibJab itself is the plaintiff in a "derivative work" dispute:

In a bizarre synthesis of several different examples from class, JibJab has sent its lawyers after someone known as The Black Lantern, who used 9 seconds of video from the "This Land is Your Land" skit in a mashup of, what else, that song "George Bush Doesn't Care About Black People" by The Legendary K.O., which mashed up Kanye West. Whew! What a tangled copyright web...
