Here's an interesting one about the company that produces Blackboard, gleaned from the Oct. 17 issue of The Chronicle of Higher Education:

I looked up the patent with the USPTO, and it is patent # 6,988,138. Interestingly, it is not a method patent. The debate revolves around how broad the scope of the patent is, which the courts are yet to decide. Does anyone feel like it's possible to bring more clarity into the arena of software patents without letting all of these cases fall to the courts?
