Copyright rules a little different in Britain

Apparently in the UK the Rolling Stones have a bunch of songs about to enter the public domain. Copyrights over there only last for 50 years, and they are trying to extend it because the band is still going strong and does not want to lose the rights to their early hits. Do you think they should get an extension? I mean, they're not even dead. Not even Keith Richard.
